What the Carte Talent Is
The carte talent is a multi-year French residence permit issued for the length of your contract or project, up to a maximum of 4 years, and renewable. It replaces the former passeport talent name but keeps the same architecture: seven categories, each with its own documentary criteria, and a single family route (talent-famille) that gives your spouse and children their own permits without a reunification queue.
Unlike a work visa, most carte talent categories do not tie you to one employer, and several do not require a job offer at all. What they require is proof that you fit the category: a contract, a diploma, a research agreement, a funded project, or a recognized artistic practice.
The 7 Categories
- Salarié qualifié — qualified employees with a degree and a French contract of 3+ months, including the entreprise innovante path (the French Tech Visa for employees).
- Carte bleue européenne (EU Blue Card) — highly paid specialists, with a higher salary threshold and strong intra-EU mobility.
- Professions médicales et de la pharmacie — doctors, dentists, midwives and pharmacists.
- Chercheur — researchers with a hosting agreement (convention d'accueil).
- Porteur de projet — business creators, innovative-project founders (the French Tech Visa) and investors from €300,000.
- Mandataire social — corporate officers appointed to lead a French entity.
- Profession artistique et culturelle — performers, authors, visual artists and other creators.

How the Process Works
- Assessment: which category fits, and what evidence is missing.
- Category strategy, with a fallback route where more than one applies.
- Document assembly: contract or project file, diplomas, proof of resources, translations.
- Filing via France-Visas (from abroad) or ANEF (from inside France).
- Decision, relocation, renewals and talent-famille for your family.
Family: Talent-Famille
One of the strongest features of the carte talent is talent-famille. Your spouse and minor children receive their own multi-year permits valid for the same period as yours, with the right to work, and without going through the standard family-reunification procedure. This is planned into every case from the start, not added as an afterthought.
How We Help
We build the strategy and the evidence; a licensed French avocat performs the regulated legal work, and the avocat's work is included in our package prices. We assess every profile before taking it on and say no honestly when the chances are weak. Decisions are made by French consulates and prefectures, and approval can never be guaranteed.

FAQ
Is the carte talent the same as the passeport talent?
Yes. The 2024 reform renamed the passeport talent to carte talent. The categories, thresholds and family route are essentially unchanged; only the name and some administrative details differ.
Do I need a job offer?
It depends on the category. Salarié qualifié and the Blue Card require a French contract; porteur de projet, chercheur and profession artistique do not require an employer. That is why category strategy matters so much.
How long does it take?
Most of the time is spent assembling evidence, not waiting for a decision. From a complete file, processing is typically weeks to a few months depending on category and consulate.
Can my family work in France?
Yes. Under talent-famille your spouse receives a permit with the right to work, valid for the same period as your own.
Do I have to speak French?
Most carte talent categories have no formal language test. French helps for daily life and renewals. We work in English and Russian; documents are prepared in French.
